Day 284 - Joseph Lochlan Blom is here !!

At last Joseph Lachlan Blom was born!!
30 May 2006
0631 hrs
Etymology:
Joseph, a family name on both maternal and paternal sides of Gwen's family.  General concept is 'may God add', presumeably another child (Paul Ehrlich sighs into his beer!)
Lachlan is for JLB transitional.  Gwen's father has some Irish family roots.  Lachlan is a Gaelic name referring to someone from the 'land of fjords'.  Of course, we all know this points to the source of many of Dad's alleles in that land where Linie Aquavit flows from the melt of every glacier!
Blom, Paul's family name of Norwegian - Danish background.  "Flower".
So, God has added another flower to our lives, fresh from those beautiful slopes of Norway's fjords.

Description:
Length:  22.5 inches, 57.15 cm
Weight:  10 lbs, 12 oz, 4876.12 g
Setae:  present, dark and a little spikeee.
Appendages:  Arms, legs (rickets?) present.  Bilaterally symetrical.  Full compliment of fingers and (cute) little toes.  Of course an aedagus and cahones that would make any father proud.
Cuticle:  Pink
Absent Features:
Dad's cleft lip
Dad's extra thumb
Medical Issues:
Slight Jaundice.  Because JLB had to be suctioned on the top of his little cone head for vaginal extraction, the resulting hematoma exacerbated the RBC issues.  Also, there was a lot of bruising coming down through the chute.  Our first follow up (2006-06-03) showed that he is out of the woods on this one!
Heart Murmur.  This did come from dad, though we don't know if it is the identical condition.  An echo cardiogram let us know that JLB's condition is caused by 2 small holes in the ventricular septum.  They are in the muscular region of the septum which increases the chance that they will heal without intervention.  Dad's did finally resolve itself sometime during the first 10 years of life.
